Obituary

Gerda Plett, 83 years old, of Steinbach, MB, passed away peacefully on Monday, Oct. 8, 2018 at the Steinbach hospital.

Gerda is survived by three daughters, Sharon (Jake) Fehr, Rose (Bill) Dyck and Grace (Pat) Plett, and one son, Frank (Lori) Plett, as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband Jake, one son-in-law, one great-grandchild, two brothers and four sisters.

Gerda was born and lived in Russia for her first eight years, then moved to Germany for seven years before settling in Canada for the rest of her life. Gerda married Jake in 1955 and they were blessed with four children. When she was sitting, her hands couldn’t be idle. She enjoyed keeping her hands busy with a lot of crocheting and knitting. She crocheted an afghan for each of her grandchildren and gifted it to them on their 18th birthday. They treasure these. She loved her family and spending much time together. She spent many hours praying for each member of her family, often shedding tears. She also lived out her faith at Woodhaven, where she spent the last 15 years of her life. She was an encouragement to all who knew her, taking some under her wing. She loved people. Her relationship with her family and friends was very important to her. But even more important was her personal relationship with her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. She was so longing to be with Him and now her desire has been fulfilled.

We want to thank the wonderful medical staff who have cared for Mom in a loving and compassionate way.

The funeral service will be held on Monday, October 15, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB, with a viewing one hour prior to the service. The burial will follow at Heritage Cemetery, Steinbach, MB.
