Obituary

Amy June Hiebert of Niverville, MB passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 7, 2021 at the St. Boniface Hospital, Winnipeg, MB.

Amy leaves to cherish her memory, her four children, Reg (Kelly), Darrell (Kathy), Dawn (Scott) and Dale (Sheri) and seven grandchildren Nico, Riley, Katey, Adam, Leah, Emma and Grace.

Amy was predeceased by her husband Henry Hiebert, her parents Reginald and Molly Benson, four sisters, Peggy Crate, Frances Johnson, Jean Wilson and Ruth Lees.

Amy was born in Estevan, SK on March 16, 1943. As a young lady she moved to Winnipeg to become a nurses assistant. It was in Winnipeg that she met the love of her life, Henry Hiebert, and was married in 1961. After moving a few times, Henry and Amy settled in Niverville, MB. Once there they started a construction business and life was starting to take shape. Sadly, in 1975, Henry was tragically killed in a car accident leaving Amy to raise four children. Amy persevered and found the strength to continue to raise their four children in the same spirit that she and Henry would have done together. Henry was the love of her life and she honored and cherished him to her last day.

The community of Niverville meant a great deal to Amy. She volunteered many hours as a figure skating instructor, hockey manager, ringette coach, member of the Niverville Horticultural Society, first responder and Chair of the Niverville Youth Justice Committee. Along the way, she made many wonderful friends and long lasting relationships.

Amy was proud to be a school bus driver for the Hanover School Division for over 30 years. She cared for her students and many remained in contact with her over the years.

Even with her strong personality Amy had a wonderful softer side that made people feel welcome. Whether it was making lunches for the kids in the community or opening her home where all of the family friends could come and feel welcome. Amy understood the true value of people and, although direct, she was a loving and accepting person.

She was proud of the life she lived and equally proud of the four children that she raised. It will be the simple things that we will miss. Whether it was her love of the rodeo, curling, Hockey Night in Canada, or just flat out giving her opinion on something and waiting for someone to dare disagree. Feisty to the end, it was the only way she knew how to live. She was truly one of a kind, a unique gift.

Mom, you were so strong and you loved so fiercely. We are the people we are today because of you. The hole you leave in our lives will never be filled but we will go forward in your memory with the strength of your convictions. We love you and we will miss you. Thank you for everything that you selflessly gave us.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 25, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at the Niverville Heritage Centre Atrium, Niverville, Manitoba. Please note: Heritage Centre does require proof of vaccination. Please present your vaccination card upon arrival.

A special thank you to Stacy Danis and to the staff at the NCU Manor in Niverville.
