It is with great sadness that we have lost the patriarch of our family. Ambroise Remillard passed away peacefully April 9th at the St Anne Hospital with the help of latest technology to keep family near and far by his side at all times. Despite Covid restrictions and her failing health, his wife Thérèse was a comforting presence at his side.
Ambroise was born January 31, 1930 in Saint Joseph, Manitoba the youngest of 10 children to Narcisse and Victoria Remillard. He was introduced to his loving wife of 66 years Thérèse (née Damphousse) by his to be brother-in-law Mon Oncle “Bibi”. They were married in July of 1955 and were fortunate to call St Joseph home for 62 years eventually spending the last 4 years making new acquaintances in Villa Youville in Ste Anne.
They were blessed with 7 children. When you hear the stories of funny shenanigans that went on in the household Pépère would still chuckle about it whenever we would revisit the events. He will be forever remembered by his children and grandchildren Rheal (Vivianne) – Julie, Rejean, Marcel, Josée. Irène Dupuis (Paul) – Marc, Andrée, Sylvain, Karine. Emile. Marc (Jeanne) – Paul, Roxanne, Janelle. Louis (Sharon) – Miguel, Daphne. Agnès. These young adults were blessed with the opportunity of learning patience, calm, humility and above all work ethics from the best teacher. He also leaves behind 16 1/2 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren which he loved and cherished whenever he had the opportunity.
With Ambroises passing a generation of Remillards has come to a close. Predeceased by his parents Narcisse and Victoria Remillard brothers and sisters and significant others Edmond (Alma), Honoré, Yvonne Jubinville/Godard (Wilfrid/Philias) David, Michel, Marie-Reine, Angeline Lalonde (Gerry), Marie-Jeanne Bretecher (Raymond), Lucille Perron (Paul), Marie-Flore Clement (Venance). In-laws Albert and Marie-Louise Damphousse brother in-law Paul Damphousse sister-in-law Sister Lucille Damphousse. He will be reunited with his son Yves whom was not given the pleasure of knowing how his dad was truly a funny and inspirational man. He is survived by in-laws Frances Vermette (Gerard), Father Georges Damphousse, Celine Dansereau (Cecil), Fernande Damphousse.
Ambroise humbly demonstrated his passion of farming through hard work and his love of laughter with family, friends and community. Pépère was a caring, gentle man with seemingly limitless patience and a demeanor that made everyone at ease. His quick wit, twinkling eye and a contagious Joie de Vivre will be remembered lovingly by all who had the privilege of crossing his path.
Service was held Friday, April 16th 2021 in St Joseph. Due to Covid restriction only family were able to attend. Officiating the service were L’abbé Patrice Kasonga and Father Georges Damphousse.
The family wishes to thank the Villa Youville staff and Home Care staff for their support and care over the last 4 years. Thank you to Dr. Francine Paquin, Dr. Steven Gravelle and hospital staff at the Ste-Anne-Hospital. Thank you to relatives and friends who have shared their kind words, their lasting memories of Ambroise, and their heartfelt sympathy.
The four boys and Irene would like to thank Agnes for taking it upon herself to take Mom and Dad back to the farm and care for them while Covid was making it’s ravages in care homes. They really enjoyed their time on the farm from March till after the wheat harvest. Mom and Dad could often be seen in their Gator checking out the progress on seeding, crop development, and finally harvest.
In Ambroise’s memory donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, or the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation).
