After a full life and surrounded by family, Peter Fehr began his new life through grace in the earlymorning hours of Thursday, February 22, 2018. Born on October 28, 1937 just outside of HaskettManitoba, the son of lsaak and Justina (nee Reimer) Fehr he was raised in the Haskett and Winkler areabefore the family moved to the Grunthal area in 1949. As one of the middle boys from a family of tenchildren, his appreciation for a large family was developed at an early age.
Peter is leaving the legacy of seven children, seventeen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; twodaughters, Carmelle (Jake) and Kim and five sons, Christopher (Valerie), Gregory (Noreen), Justin(Yvonne), Jonathon (Magen) and Matthew (Julie) survive him. He is also survived by one sister Elizabeth(Walter) and two brothers Abe (Susie) and David.
Through his earlier years Peter lived throughout the Southeast before moving to Winnipeg for work. Heworked in various jobs including some harvest season treks to St Catherines to work in the orchardcanneries. Having met the love of his life Viola, they settled in Winnipeg until the early 1970’s whenthey returned to country living, settling on a hobby farm south of Mitchell.
In addition to his family, Peter loved nature and found joy in walking through the poplar bluffs andtending his garden and fruit trees. His home was truly next to Eden to him and he found bliss in simplywalking through the yard on a warm summer evening. Visitors were sure to be treated to a tour of hisgarden along with a coffee which was perpetually brewed. If visitors commented positively on anythingthey saw, his generous spirit would usually ensure they also left with a bag of produce or fruit from hisland.
While not a social man, Peter found pleasure in time spent with friends and family over coffee in variouslocal shoppes around Steinbach. While not the loudest or most prolific speaker in the crowd, he wasquick with a comment of quiet wisdom and a smile and he put all those he met at ease. When adversityfound him seeking employment in his 50″s, he found not only a job in providing home care services butalso an awakened passion where he could help those requiring assistance in their twilight years and leftanother large legacy of relationships with families that he bonded with. While health challenges in thepast few years hampered his socializing, he welcomed visitors and appreciated the small moments, especially if they were over sips of good coffee.
His appreciation and thanks were always extended to the staff at Bethesda Hospital and Bethesda Placeand the family would like to echo this thanks to all the caring staff. As such in lieu of flowers his memorywould be best honoured through donations to either CancerCare Manitoba or the Bethesda Foundation.
A celebration of life ceremony will be held on Monday February 26, 2018, 2:00pm at Birchwood FuneralChapel with a private family interment to follow at Heritage Cemetery.
