Ron was born and raised on the family farm in Stuartburn, MB. It was a Saturday evening in 1962 when Ron attended a local polka party and met the love of his life Margery. They married in 1963 and moved to the north end in Winnipeg where they started a family. In 1975 they moved back to Gardenton, MB to raise their 3 sons. Ron was employed at the Vita Co-Op as a butter maker at the creamery. He then became a school bus driver and custodian at the Shevchenko School in Vita, MB. Ron retired in 2006 to enjoy his lifelong passion for ice fishing at Buffalo Point, deer hunting with his son Darryl, and of course spending time with his grandchildren that were so special to him. Ron was also very dedicated to his Catholic faith and spent many hours volunteering and took pride in his community.
We know that Gido was very appreciative of all those who visited him during his stay in the hospital and helped make his last few weeks very bright. A special thank you to Ron’s great lifelong friends Morris & Irene Perun, and Maurice & Pat Tkachuk for their incredible support to the family, and for being there when needed, driving in challenging weather conditions to get Ron to his many appointments.
The family would also like to thank the incredible staff at the De Salaberry District Health Centre in St. Pierre, Manitoba for the care and compassion they gave Ron in his final stay. We will be forever grateful.
