Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Claire Desorcy (née Gagnon) on Monday, April 28, 2025 at the age of 93 years at Ste. Anne Hospital, Ste. Anne, MB. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family.

Claire’s passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of many. She is survived by her beloved husband of 75 years, Gilles and their daughters Diane & Florence (Ron St. Hilaire). She will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Claude (Katie), Danielle (Erick Rocan) & Michelle (Jeremy Young), and great-grandchildren Amélia & Benjamin St. Hilaire, Jaden & Isabella Rocan; sister and brothers: Estelle Taillefer, Louis, Gérard (Yvette) & Roland; sisters-in-law Lillian Gagnon & Jeannette Desorcy, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Claire was predeceased by her parents Paul-Émile & Rosina Gagnon, her in-law’s Émile & Maria Desorcy, brothers, sisters and in-law’s: Yvette & Wilfrid Turenne, Oscar, Joseph, Jeannette & Donat Desorcy, Gilberte & Lorne Friesen, Guy Taillefer, Lynda Gagnon, Carmelle Gagnon as well as all of Gilles’ siblings and their spouses.

Claire was born at her family home in La Broquerie on January 14, 1932. Claire & Gilles were married on February 18, 1950, and recently celebrated 75 years of marriage. Their marriage was a testimony of true love to all who encountered them – Claire and Gilles still enjoyed their goodnight kisses, and holding hands as they slept. Claire worked some years as a janitor and did some babysitting, though she was a devoted homemaker most of her life. They lived a simple life, but she felt rich in many ways. Claire’s faith was at the centre of everything she did, she had a great devotion to the Virgin Mary. She lit up when surrounded by friends and family, and enjoyed family gatherings. After their children were grown, Claire enjoyed traveling throughout Canada with her family. Claire was a gifted seamstress, enjoyed knitting and working on Christmas crafts with her grandchildren. She also loved cooking and baking – we will miss her homemade pickles, hot spaghetti, homemade beans and galettes. She will be fondly remembered for her beautiful laugh and her “joie de vivre”. We pray you’re rocking in a rocking chair, surrounded by sunshine and fields of flowers.

The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the medical staff at Ste. Anne Hospital for their loving and compassionate care of Claire.

Repose en paix, on t’aime énormément Claire, Mom, Memère, Grand-mama.
