Obituary

Annie (Anne) Plett was born on March 31, 1941 in Steinbach, MB. Her parents were John and Getruda Janzen.

Annie is survived by her sons Mark Plett (Sandy), Byron Plett (Hieu) and her daughter Frances Zacharias.

She is also survived by her grandchildren, Rachelle Fauchoux (Braden), Nicola Basanes (Jan), Sara Pruden (Rylan), Camille Dick (Nicholas), Danielle Plett and fiance Jaden Jenkins, Zachary Zacharias (Katelyn) and Holly Plett. Lastly, Annie was blessed with four great-grandchildren, Tala Basanes, River Zacharias, Malaya Basanes and Ryker Fauchoux.

She is also survived by sisters Linda Penner and Irene Janzen, sister-in-law Carol Janzen as well as many nieces and nephews.

Annie was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Plett only one year ago, parents John and Getruda Janzen, two brothers and four sisters, four brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law.

Annie attended grade 1 through grade 8 in the Blumenort School and grades 9 and 10 in Blumenhoff School. From there, Annie ventured into Winnipeg and worked at a municipal hospital, then back to Blumenort to work at the Coop.

On July 14, 1961, she married her highschool sweetheart, Joseph Plett. Several years later they welcomed two sons, Mark in 1964, Byron in 1967 and a daughter Frances, born in 1970.

Annie dedicated her life to her children, fostering a home of love and safety for them. She stayed home to care for them and there were few days in all those years that she would not be home after school to greet her children.

She loved to sew for her family, for enjoyment but also for necessity. She was skillful at cutting fabric, using every inch, with very little waste of material.

It was in the early 1990’s that she was introduced to Habitat for Humanity. She soon began travelling with Joe to many continents around the world, volunteering to build houses for people in need. Joe gave his time wielding a carpenter’s belt and hammer but Annie found her place in the kitchen, cooking for all the labourers. One notable trip was to Georgia to build on Jimmy Carter’s peanut farm. Joe and Annie loved to recount how Jimmy Carter would call them by name, and that he was still escorted by secret service in tinted SUV’s. There is still a picture around, (ask Fran!) of Annie with Jimmy and Rose Carter!

Annie’s garden was always a beautiful sight. She loved to give tours to her sisters, friends, family and even people from the community who stopped by to admire it. She laboured for many hours to grow her flowers and vegetables. She happily and generously gave away much of her produce to her children, grandchildren, church friends and to strangers who ventured in the yard.

Other past times of Annie were knitting toques for homeless shelters, quilting, and would you believe, clogging – a percussive type of dance that creates rhythms by tapping the heel or toe of her shoe.

Annie cherished her Pastors and her church family and was faithful in lifting them up in prayer. Highlights of her week were her Monday Bible Study group and her bi-weekly woman’s group, which was life giving to her after Joe’s death. She loved them dearly.

Annie was also the proud winner of many ribbons at the St. Vital Ladies Fair where she entered large pumpkins or zucchini, flower arrangements and baking.

She was most proud however, of her family – her children and grandchildren. Her heart was full when they were together. Sadly, she was unable to meet her new great grandsons.

Annie loved God and His Word. Her faith was the foundation for her life and she prayed fervently for her children and their families. Her desire was for them to know God like she does and to walk in His will for their lives.

Since April of last year, Annie has missed Joseph tremendously. Their reunion in heaven must have been so wonderful!

Annie left us so suddenly. She is now in heaven with her eternal Saviour. Her body has been restored and is now free of concern, worry, tears and pain. She is in the presence of Jesus. She is HOME!!
