Gordon Wayne Kornelson, age 80, of Mitchell, MB passed away surrounded by family on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at St. Boniface Hospital, Winnipeg, MB.

He is survived by his beloved wife Rebecca Ann (Reimer), their two daughters, one son and nine grandchildren – Deanne (Mark) Miller, Sarah (Kyle) Kamerman, Tim; Heather (Patrick) Peters, Ian; Michael (Naomi) Kornelson, Nadia, Xander, Selah, Silas, Norah & Kalea. He will also be lovingly remembered by his siblings Ron (Sue) Kornelson, Mary (Abe) Hiebert, Agnes (Jac) Friesen, Marge (Gary) Maclean and George (Chris) Kornelson and his in-laws Larry (Viola) Reimer, Marlene (Jim) Reimer, Verna (Bob) Reitmeier and Julie (Matt) Fehr and many nieces and nephews.

Gordon was predeceased by his parents John D. and Agnes Kornelson.

Gordon was born February 6, 1945, in Dryden in Ontario. Gordon & Rebecca were married 54 years ago on June 5, 1971. He was employed at Steinbach Credit Union, working his way up from teller to Loans Manager over nearly 30 years and then started his own business doing taxes and personal financial counselling. Gordon was busily involved with coaching and reffing hockey, umpiring baseball, serving as a Hanover school trustee for 17 years, spearheading the building of the first school in Mitchell, and at the MCC Thrift Store for 45 years. He was also involved with many church activities, living out his deep faith in his Lord and Saviour.

Gordon loved spending time with his family, simply playing cards, enjoying meals and traveling with them. There were many family trips, including several journeys to Switzerland. He especially looked forward to our annual vacation to Betula Lake each summer, where he spent hours fishing and waterskiing. Together, Gordon and Becky enjoyed working on their extensive country property and hosting many wiener roasts. He loved watching his grandchildren grow and spent much time attending their sporting or music activities, always encouraging them on. Gordon enjoyed golfing frequently with his many friends, building some close friendships.

Gordon battled diabetes since he was only 6 years old, when there was hardly even a way of diagnosing it yet. In spite of the many medical challenges in his life, Gordon retained a positive attitude and kept reminding his family of what the Lord had done for each of them, passing his faith on to the future generations. We give a special thanks to all the doctors, nurses and staff at St. Boniface Hospital who cared for Dad so many times throughout his years.

A private family viewing and funeral service will be held at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, followed by interment at Heritage Cemetery, Steinbach, MB.
