Obituary

Marvin Gerbrant, a man whose life was a testament to his faith, love, and joyous spirit, peacefully entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior on June 13, 2025, at Boundary Trails hospital. He was surrounded by the love of his family. Born on May 13, 1952, in Morris, MB, Marvin’s journey of 73 years was marked by a relentless commitment to his family, his faith, and his community.

As the loving husband to Elizabeth (Betsy) Gerbrant, cherished father to Leah Dyck (Jonathan), Robin Fehr (Johni), Tanis Lemoine (Louis), and Mark Gerbrant, and adored grandpa to Mikayla (and Jay), Kezia, Lexi, Jaxson, Sophia, Gavin, Austin, and Mason, Marvin’s legacy is one of boundless love, generosity, and guidance. His family remembers him as the cornerstone of their lives, a man whose wisdom and humor enriched their days and whose generous heart was their refuge.

Marvin dedicated his life to the soil and soul of his community as a devoted farmer, a role that allowed him to witness the fruit of his labor in both the fields he tended and the lives he touched. His service did not end there; he poured his heart into his roles as a youth leader, deacon, UGM Board Chairman, and active member of various Lowe Farm Community Boards including the Chamber, Co-op, Credit Union, and Prairie View apartments.

His commitment to missions and his work as a deacon were reflections of his profound Christian faith, which he lived out with exuberance and unwavering conviction. With a tune often on his lips and an instrument in his hands, Marvin was a man who loved music, playing the guitar, banjo, bass, and mandolin. Leading music in church and at youth events, he shared his passion while touching the hearts of many people. He was probably the greatest Beatles fan.

Marvin had many hobbies that were both creative and adventurous. From his woodworking, skillfully handcrafting airplane models, furniture, and wall art, to his love of refinishing antiques and constructing Lego masterpieces. An avid collector, he treasured vintage paraphernalia, particularly neon signs, Route 66 items, and his beloved ’57 Chevy. His passion for the outdoors was evident in his frequent fishing trips, boating excursions, and the tranquility he found in nature. He instilled in his family a love for camping and exploring, taking them on road trips across Canada and the US and as far as Israel, creating memories that would last a lifetime.

Marvin’s family and friends knew him as a funny, generous, and faith-filled man. He was the fixer-of-many-things, not just of tangible objects, but of weary spirits and challenging situations. He was always there with a kind word or a helping hand. Psalm 121 reminds us: “I lift my eyes to the hills – where does my help come from? My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.” (v 1-2) Marvin lived with this promise, shining his light into the lives of all he met.

Though his battle with cancer was a challenge he faced with fortitude, it never dimmed the light of his spirit or his trust in God’s plan. Marv’s life was a beacon of faith, hope, and love. While he will be profoundly missed, his legacy will continue to inspire and guide us all. His laughter, wisdom, and presence will forever resonate in the hearts of those who loved him, and his life will be celebrated as one well-lived, full of the grace and love of God.
