Obituary

Lorine Goossen Hiebert was born to Henry and Margaret Goossen on April 4th, 1933. In peace & quiet she was called home on Friday, June 13, 2025, at the age of 92.

Mom grew up in a perfect little house on a small grain farm in McTavish. A loving Father & Mother, with one sister made for a good Home. The interdependence between Mom & Diana lived on right to the last, for which we are grateful. Their own mother passed away when Mom was 25 years old.

Mom was baptized on Dec 21, 1947, at the age of fourteen.

Mom was a person that cared deeply. This made her many friends and of course sometimes caused her some struggles. We as a family grew up eating healthy delicious food. Anybody invited to the spread she would put on our long table would leave satisfied. Her cream pies & donuts were the highlight of her kitchen.

Quite likely the most outstanding event in Mom’s youth life was her Nursing career and how that got interwoven with finding the love of her life. Her father, a very proper man of order and quite wise, invited our dad into their home to board while he did his practice teaching at the local school. She realized the desire of her heart and married Cornelius Hiebert on a Thursday evening July 18th, 1957.

Dad’s teaching career left Mom home with a crew of six children all having their own ideas. This was not easy with pigs, chickens, a horse and too many cows to milk. Most of this work never paid off in dollars but it kept us out of trouble most of the time. The whole milk project was a lot of work for mom.

Mom had to get used to things changing. We lived in many places and each one of these had their own set of memories. Mom made some very close ties with friends, both young and old in Livingston, Bannatyne Home, Swan River and not least right here at home in Rosenort. She loved to squeeze into the hearts of teenagers.

Mom had enthusiasm for life, moving off of the farm at the age of 59 was too early and the thought of going to the Manor at 90 was also. Dads’ penchant for designing houses, some cherished trees and an oversize garden helped ease the move to their dream house on River Road. Boundary Trails Hospital was her last & final stop.

On a final note and most importantly was Mom’s courage. It might have been Dad that talked most of true faith and the Blood of Jesus, but through whatever battle Mom faced – never did we think of her giving up and losing the way. Thank you, Mom.

Her survivors include her children, Corinne & Micheal Dueck, Weldon & Ruth, Margaret & Richard Penner, Lois & Galen Goossen, Mark & Rachelle and David & Nadine. Eighteen grandchildren and twenty-eight great grandchildren. One sister Diana Nikkel.

Mom was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her stepmother, her parents-in-law, one brother, one brother-in-law, four great grandchildren.
