Lise also leaves to mourn her stepmother Clémence, her sister Diane (Bernard); her brothers Marc (Denise), Jean-Guy (Bev) and Dennis (Deb); brother-in-law Edwin; sister-in-law Pat (Blair) and numerous nephews and nieces and their children, not to mention many extended family members and special friends.
A Christmas baby, first described by her mother at birth as “not dat small…”, she grew up in several train stations starting in Swift, MN all the way to Ste. Anne, MB In that, her mother was wheelchair-bound due to MS and being the oldest of the girls, she assumed household duties at a very young age and pretty much raised her two younger brothers. Shortly after high school she married, moved to Otterburne and had her four wonderful children. After three years in Morinville, AB they returned to Otterburne until she moved to St. Pierre-Jolys.
She worked as a daycare director in St. Pierre and then was an educational assistant in St. Pierre and St. Jean-Baptiste before taking on a retirement job as postal clerk. Her loving and caring nature left a profound impression on all those she worked with. During her youth she was an accomplished athlete, baseball and curling being her two top sports. Her endeavors earned her the nickname Mighty Mouse, despite the fact that one of her team uniform numbers was ½. She was even the pitcher on a men’s team. She also coached baseball, supported her kids in their sporting events and then eventually graduated to being the ever-present best fan that a child or grandchild could ever ask for. Her family was her life!
Denis and Lise were married on October 10th, 1997. Denis brought her “back to her roots” on “the right side of the river” to Letellier where her father was born. There they created amazing memories before moving to St. Pierre to continue building a wonderful life. They had their share of ups and downs. The passing of Natalie, also due to cancer, a bionic arm, a house fire, but even through past tragedies and losses, Lise showed us that storms could be weathered, new adventures could happen, and that life was okay when you had good people by your side. Lise and Denis lived some great experiences. These included time with family and friends, Friday night suppers, game nights, cleaning, and then more cleaning the cleaned areas, meeting new people and making new friends, traveling different parts of Canada and the world, and even her wish for a Mediterranean cruise to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary.
She gave of herself selflessly. Her generosity and love of music pushed her to directing church choirs. It was truly an expression of her faith. Lise helped out at Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Support Group family camp and activities for many years. She volunteered approximately 30 years for Théâtre du Cercle Molière and was very much involved with Théâtre Montcalm as well as many other volunteer activities.
A “cancer mom” and good friend describes Lise as the petite woman with funky haircut (and sometimes color). The person who is ready to try anything. The person who will sit with you and give 100% of her attention. She’s kind, compassionate and gentle. Her energy seemed to go on forever and even when she was tired or not feeling well, it didn’t matter, because for Lise other people came first. Lise’s smile and brilliant eyes just drew you to her, like a magnet. Lise, you made an indelible impact on SO many people.
We are so proud of Lise’s courage, faith and profound love during the last part of her life journey. We would like to thank the staff at Bethesda Regional Health Center and especially those at Cancer Care Steinbach for the wonderful care and compassion so graciously given to Lise.
