Obituary

Bruce Alfred Rondeau, a man whose life was as vibrant and varied as a patchwork quilt, embarked on his final adventure due to natural causes on May 8, 2025, in his beloved hometown of Dominion City. Bruce, known for his loving nature, interesting tales, and courageous spirit, was a jack-of-all-trades with a heart as big as his personality.

Born on November 18, 1957, in Winnipeg, Bruce’s early years were filled with the kind of mischief that would later define his eclectic career choices. He attended Glenlawn School, where he likely learned less about geometry and more about the art of living a full life.

Bruce was predeceased by his father, Joseph Alfred Oscar Rondeau, and his mother, Marie Elenore Cécile Joyce (Desjarlais), stepson Kristopher Fast, Brother Grant Rondeau, in laws Wilbert and Evelyn Schalla. A family as diverse and spirited as his interests.

Bruce’s work history reads like a man who accidentally grabbed a dozen different careers instead of a lunch bag on his way out the door. He drove cabs for Duffy Taxi, mingled with the smoky crowds at a tobacco company, and launched boat rentals in St Malo, ensuring everyone had a chance to enjoy the water as much as he did. Not to mention, he ran the firewood concession with the precision of a man who knew the difference between birch and pine by the smell alone.

His time at Riemer Ready Mix as a truck driver was as solid as the concrete he hauled, but Bruce’s spirit was too free for just one lane, so he took a short detour as a long-haul driver. Ever the showman, he joined forces with his partner Jakes to bring paintball and jousting to town carnivals across Manitoba, no doubt leaving a trail of laughter and bruised egos in his wake. Eventually, he settled into the role of a pawn shop proprietor in Dominion City, where he traded treasures until his well-earned retirement.

Bruce’s wife, Phyllis Rondeau, along with his; daughter Amber-lynn and son-in-law Marty Parker; sister Kathy and her husband Sinc Dalgleish; brother Tim and his wife Angie Rondeau; and brothers-in-law Micheal and Anna Schalla, and Jason and Leanne Schalla, will miss his larger-than-life presence. His grandkids Brook-lynn, Dax, Kiana, and Noah, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and godchildren, will carry on his legacy of boundless energy and joy.

Bruce loved to ride his Harley, a symbol of his freedom and love for the open road. His taste in music was as diverse as his resume, often working concert security, where he no doubt told the rowdies, “You shall not pass!” with a grin. His collection of toys – from monster trucks to quads to ski-doos – was legendary, and the kids had a blast because, in Bruce’s world, every day was a play day. He also enjoyed ice fishing, but we won’t talk about Ontario fishing because, let’s face it, those trips were always more about the adventure than the catch!

Bruce’s life was an unrestrained celebration, a testament to living with gusto and a dash of recklessness. His was a life that couldn’t be captured in a single sitting, nor in a single story. Yet, if we could sum him up, we’d say Bruce was a man who never ran out of love to give or stories to share, and he never met a stranger, only friends he hadn’t yet entertained.

So as we bid farewell to Bruce Alfred Rondeau, let’s not mourn the loss but celebrate the life of a man who embraced the world with open arms and probably would have cracked a joke about this very moment. Bruce, you were one of a kind, and we were all the richer for sharing in your incredible journey. Keep the engine running and the music loud until we meet again

The burial of Bruce’s urn will take place September 6, 2025, at 2:00pm at the Dominion City Cemetery. A Celebration of his life will be held at 3:00pm at the Dominion City Hall.

The family would like to thank the EMS, Ambulance, STARS, and all the support and prayers from family, friends and community.
