Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jonathan James Wiebe, who was called home to his Maker on July 9, 2025, at the age of 38.

Jonathan was a kind and gentle soul – reserved, thoughtful, and deeply empathetic. Born on August 2, 1986, he was a devoted son to W. James and Linda Wiebe, a cherished brother to Melissa and her husband Rohan, and a beloved uncle to Sarah Jayne Marie, and Zachary Benjamin.

He had a quiet but profound love for reading, researching, and helping others. Summers at Caddy Lake with family, visits to the Cook’s Creek Festival and the Gimli Icelandic Festival, and late nights playing games with friends and family were among his favorite moments. In a childhood school journal, he once wrote that he loved “computers and bugging his sister” – a perfect glimpse into his playful spirit and deep love for his family.

Jonathan found joy in life’s small but meaningful details. He delighted in making Slurpees for his dad, volunteered briefly with Soups On alongside Joy Neufeld (where his tall frame was especially useful), and found comfort when a neighbor moved in with her dog, he was thrilled. He could hear the patter of feet on the ceiling, bringing back fond memories of the sounds of home. He shared meaningful conversations about world events with his neighbor Bev, always offering a listening ear.

Those who knew Jonathan knew him as a gentle giant – a true empath who bore pain with quiet strength and tried to ease the suffering of others in his own, deeply personal way.

The family wishes to express heartfelt thanks to all who supported them during this difficult time: cousin Barb, best friend Crystal, Xiaoxiao, the girls, Candace from Crossings Funeral Care, the paramedics, RCMP, and Adeline. Your compassion meant the world to us. Melissa and Rohan, thank you for your unwavering presence.

“We’re all stories in the end. Just make it a good one, eh?” ~ The Doctor

Rest now, gentle soul. You are deeply loved and forever remembered.

As per Jonathan’s wishes, no formal services are being planned.
