David Petreny Sofroniuk, born on July 18, 1944, in Port Arthur, Ontario, passed away on July 20, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, faith, and generosity. He was a dedicated man who cherished his family and upheld strong spiritual beliefs throughout his life. Known for his incredible sense of humor, David had a unique ability to bring laughter to those around him, creating joyful memories that will be cherished forever.

David devoted a significant part of his life to his career with the CP Rail until his retirement. He was deeply respected by his colleagues and friends for his strong work ethic and willingness to lend a helping hand to others whenever needed. His passion for supporting Israel exemplified his generous spirit and commitment to causes he believed in.

As a brother, uncle, and friend, he was truly like a father to many who knew him. He loved his coffee and a smoke. He had an unwavering dedication to doing what was right in the sight of God. David will be remembered for his warmth and willingness to help those in need, forging lasting bonds and friendships along the way.

David leaves behind his loving sisters: Ruth Dionne (Fern), Marion Massop (Joe), Darlene Purcell, Loreili Isaac, Remana “Mona” Towns (Wayne), and Dalphina Sofroniuk (Merv), as well as his brother Peter Jordan (Carol). He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends who will all miss him dearly.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Mike and Julia Sofroniuk, and his siblings, sisters; Julie Wiebe, Virginia Kehler, brothers; Leon Sofroniuk, and Daniel Sofroniuk.

A funeral service to honor David’s life will be held on July 26, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Crossings Funeral Care in Steinbach, Manitoba, followed by a reception. He will be laid to rest in the Niverville Hespeler Cemetery. This gathering will offer family and friends a chance to celebrate the life of a remarkable man who touched the hearts of many.
