Obituary

Les passed away suddenly at home in Richer, MB, with his wife Myriam by his side on July 28, 2025. We never expected to lose him so soon, but we find comfort in knowing that his love and sense of humor are now woven into the very fabric of our lives.

Predeceased by his parents Matilda (Fuchs) and Henry Krahn, Les grew up in a family of five with his siblings Rick (Ruth), Theresa (Avery), Erica (Ted), and Keven (Sandra) near Niverville, MB, on their dairy farm. Family and roots were very important to him. He could tell you the family history in great detail and had a deep connection with the land.

Les was very proud of his four children Chris, Stacey (Charles), Cameron, and Samantha (Alan), and his two young granddaughters Ally-Rae and Delilah. He loved spending time with them, and pictures were pulled out and shown off to anyone he talked to. Almost all the kids’ social media posts got a “like”, if not a smartass comment. Having his family come to Richer for holidays and birthdays in recent years was very special to him, as well as gatherings with Myriam’s family.

From a young age his main interests were farming and machinery. Many acres of carpet were farmed before he graduated to the full-sized equipment, and he never considered any career other than taking over the farm. Being “allowed” by his dad to work on the farm and drive the equipment was his joy, and he said that’s how he knew his dad loved him. As an adult, he took over the farm and raised his own family there.

With life’s twists and turns, Les eventually left the farm in his forties and worked as an agricultural trucker for many years, still firmly in his wheelhouse at the crossroads of farming and operating machinery. He took great pride in parking perfectly straight, loading his trailers to exactly the correct weights, and graduated to B-trains with two trailers.

He moved to Richer seven years ago with Myriam and enjoyed doing yardwork and looking after animals on the acreage, including his giant trained ox Butch.

In recent years he tried to slow down and find a “part-time” job (his definition of that was ONLY 40 or 50 hours a week!) and he found his place working at a farm near Oakbank and another one helping adults with developmental disabilities at Pulford Community Living in Ste. Anne, MB. The people he helped loved his jokes and riding in his big truck.

Rest in peace, freed from earthly struggles.

We will miss that big laugh.

The memorial service will be held at Birchwood Funeral Chapel in Steinbach, MB., on Sunday, August 17, 2025, at 2:00 p.m.
