With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Andrew Stewart of Niverville, MB, who left us peacefully on July 26, 2025, at the age of 69.
Born in Port Arthur, Ontario (now Thunder Bay), Andrew was the middle child of Gertie and Archie Stewart. He grew up in the small northern town of Atikokan, where his lifelong love of the outdoors first took root.
At 19, he moved to Toronto, and by 20 was working as a radio operator on the DEW Line, stationed in the remote Nicholson Peninsula. It was there that he met Deborah – also a radio operator – who would become his wife and partner for the next 46 years.
They made their home in Winnipeg, where they raised their two sons, Jarrod and John. Andrew worked for over 30 years at Builders Furniture Ltd., known for his craftsmanship, quiet work ethic, and reliability. In retirement, he embraced his passion for woodworking and found great joy in his role as “Gramps” to his grandson, Arlo.
Andrew will be remembered for his dry wit, steady presence, and unwavering devotion to those he loved. He had a calming way about him – a man of few words, but deep loyalty. His absence leaves a quiet space that will be deeply felt.
He is survived by his wife Deborah; sons Jarrod and John (Vanessa); grandson Arlo; sister Jan (Laurie); brother Ron (Barb); sisters-in-law Dorothy Melnychuk, Karen Melnychuk; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family who will miss him dearly.
A service will be held on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Niverville Community Fellowship. All are welcome to attend and help celebrate Andrew’s life.
Special thanks to Pastor David Funk and the family at NCF, Rob Hiebert of Crossings Funeral Care, and the community of Niverville. We could not have gone through this without you.
