It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our husband, father, and brother Jac (Jacob W.) Doerksen at the age of 66 after his battle with cancer.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Diana, children Jennifer, Erin (Orlando), and Matthew (Dolly), siblings Esther, Sarah, Dave, Ben (Ann), and John and nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
He is predeceased by his mother Helen, father David, step mother Aganetha, and brothers Peter and Abe in infancy.
Jac was born in Randolph, MB where he grew up on the family farm and worked & played with his siblings. Growing up he enjoyed playing hockey, riding horses, and cruising around on motorcycles. Jac was always on the go! He married the love of his life, Diana, on April 16, 1977 and after 2 years of marriage they started their family welcoming their first born Jennifer. A few short years later they welcomed their second daughter Erin and then their son Matthew.
In providing for his family, Jac chose the career of long haul truck driving. The majority of his career was spent at Penner International until his recent retirement on August 25, 2017. He spent 28 years on the road and then was promoted to Driver Relations in the office.
After leaving the road and being at home more he was able to volunteer his time at church. Jac spent years ushering at church, on church council, singing in the choir and doing many mission trips with the Lutheran Men in Mission. With his driving career he was first to volunteer to drive the many miles to New Orleans and New Jersey.
Other hobby’s that Jac loved were woodworking with friends, golfing in men’s league and spending time at the lake fishing. As busy as he was he always made family his first priority. Jac loved to joke and always had a positive encouraging attitude even in his final days. He will be greatly missed by many.
Cremation has taken place.
Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Steinbach, MB.
