Edward (Ed) Marynowski, born June 13, 1937, in Zhoda, Manitoba, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 25, 2025, at the Vita & District Health Centre, Vita, MB., at the age of 88.
Ed is lovingly remembered by his wife of 60 years, Anne Marynowski (née Kuch); his daughter Marianne Goldsborough, born in 1967; son-in-law Greg Goldsborough; and his cherished grandsons Justin (34) and Ryan (32). He is also survived by his brother Alex Marynowski; sisters-in-law Loraine Marynowski and Eleane Baranyk; and many nieces and nephews.
Ed was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Lily Marynowski; his parents-in-law Matt and Teenie Kuch; brothers Morris (and wife Olga), Mike, and Bohdon; sisters-in-law Olga (Alex) and Jean Wowryk; and brothers-in-law Leonard Baranyk and Harry Wowryk.
Ed grew up in Zhoda, Manitoba, where he helped his parents farm alongside his brothers Morris, Mike, and Alex. He attended Franko School and, at a young age, moved to Winnipeg to begin working. Over the years, he held many jobs, including hauling pulpwood, road and building construction, and concrete pipe manufacturing.
After marrying Anne in 1965, they welcomed their only child, Marianne, in 1967 in Winnipeg. The family lived with Anne’s parents on Boyd Avenue before purchasing their first home on Beacher Avenue, later returning to Boyd Avenue, where they lived until 1977.
In 1977, Ed built the Vita Motor Inn, which included a restaurant, lounge, and motel rooms. Ed, Anne, and Marianne all worked together there. Soon after, Ed followed his lifelong dream of farming, beginning with eight head of cattle that eventually grew to over 100. Balancing both the restaurant and farming, Ed remained busy until 1994, when he and Anne sold the business to farm full-time. In 1996, they built their dream farm in Zhoda, which remained their home.
Ed had a deep love for the outdoors. From a young age, he enjoyed hunting and fishing and often shared stories of walking to the Rat River with his brothers to catch fish for dinner. He also enjoyed building houses, cutting wood for lumber, and playing the accordion – a love of Ukrainian music he shared with his father, father-in-law, and brothers.
When time allowed, Ed and Anne enjoyed traveling throughout Western Canada and the United States, including visits to California and Kansas where their daughter lived. Two particularly memorable trips were to Tofino, British Columbia, where Ed fished in the ocean, and to Mexico. He also enjoyed trips to the casino when the opportunity arose.
Ed was well known for his hospitality. Anyone who knew him, knew his love of coffee and his joy when company arrived. Visitors were always welcomed with, “Come on in,” followed by, “Anne, make coffee.” Ed loved listening to others’ stories about hunting, fishing, farming, and family, and he was never shy about sharing his own adventures – often leaving listeners laughing to tears. His sense of humor and mischievous charm will be fondly remembered.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at 10:30 a.m., with viewing starting at 10:00 a.m., at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB., with interment to follow at Zhoda Community Cemetery.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the doctors and staff at Bethesda Hospital and Vita Hospital for the compassionate care provided to Ed. Special thanks are also extended to Eleane Baranyk, Darlene Wowryk, Willie and Adriaan Tichelaan, and Agnes Bespalko for their many visits, and to Danny Marynowski, Bill Marynowski, and Corrinne Pearase for driving Ed to numerous medical appointments in Winnipeg. Anne also wishes to express her deep gratitude to daughter Marianne and son-in-law Greg for their constant love and support during Ed’s final months.
