Marie Chipilski was born May 21, 1927, and lived a full life till the ripe old age of 98 years
She was predeceased by her husband Joe, five brothers, Pete, Menno, Charlie, Herman, and Ben. Three daughters-in-law, Rose, Debbie and Claire and two grandsons Derek and Dallas.
Marie was survived by four sons, Rene (Kim), Louis (Mary), Raymond (Wendy), Fern (Stephanie), one daughter Annette (Brian) and their families. She is also survived by three brothers Jake, Rueben and Andrew, three sisters Kay, Lydia and Martha.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother but known to all her grandchildren as Baba.
Marie’s cup was always full even when her life was coming to an end, she was always positive, and she never ran out of things to say.
She was born to Peter and Katherina Friesen where they live on a farm in a small village of Osterwick. At the age of 27 she and Joe married and were blessed with 56 years of marriage. They decided to buy that same farm in 1965 where they lived till 2004 until health reasons had them move off the farm to Grunthal. This is where she got to be across the hall from her twin Kay and they became the “celebrities of Grunthal”. Anyone you talked to knew them would always have something positive to say about them.
Marie was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 79 but beat the odds and was blessed with 14 more years before her cancer came back at the age of 93, but that didn’t slow her down or change her outlook in life. In June 2025 she suffered a major heart attack and only then did she start feeling her age. She said, “I guess this is what 98 feels like.”
Marie loved life and her family and even when she knew the end was drawing near, she would still ask God for one more day.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, January 16, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, Manitoba, with viewing prior to the service.
The family would like to thank all the staff at Bethesda Regional Health Centre for taking such great care of her.
