Robert Heinz “Bob” Warkentin, age 90, of Stonewall, Manitoba, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 8, 2026, at Betel Personal Care Home in Selkirk, Manitoba, with his beloved wife Agatha holding his hand.
Bob is lovingly remembered by his wife of 62 years, Agatha (née Neufeld); his daughter Robyn (Ernie); his son Rick (Fran); his grandchildren Marli, Jon (Sarah), Brittany (Andrew), and Brooke; his great-grandchildren Adrianna (adopted by Dan and Tamara Silvari), Daitan, and Libby; and his bonus grandchildren Emma (Stefan), Bobbi-Jo (Sheldon), and Sam (Stephanie). He will also be deeply missed by his surviving siblings Al (Ruth), Eleanor (Harry (deceased)), Vern (Maggie), Marlene (Jerry), John (Jackie), as well as in-laws, nieces and nephews, extended family, and many friends. He was predeceased by his parents Jacob and Tina, and brother Peter (Linda (deceased)).
Bob was baptized in 1953 on his confession of faith and then served his Lord in many capacities in his church. In 1985, Bob was ordained as a minister and faithfully served at Schoenfelder Mennonite Church until his retirement in 2005. His faith, kindness, and steady presence were central to his life and his service to others.
Bob began farming shortly after graduating in 1953 from Mennonite Collegiate Institute. He obtained his agriculture diploma from the University of Manitoba in 1958. In 1963, he purchased a farm in the Meadows area, where he farmed until 1990. He and Agatha continued to live on the farmyard until 2005. After retiring from farming Bob worked as an adjuster for Manitoba Crop Insurance from 1991 until 2000.
Bob had many interests and hobbies. He loved reading, woodworking, doing puzzles and crosswords, and watching Blue Bomber football. Gardening brought him great joy, as did time spent in and around the swimming pool. The annual pool parties with the Neufeld family were a highlight of every summer and created cherished memories for all who attended. Bob also enjoyed traveling extensively with Agatha throughout North America, Europe, and to Israel. He especially treasured the many projects he shared with his son Rick, ranging from minor renovations to the building of a new home.
A memorial service will be held on February 21, 2026, at 2:00 p.m., at Douglas Mennonite Church, 1517 Rothesay St. Winnipeg, MB.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the compassionate and dedicated staff at Betel Personal Care Home for their exceptional care and support.
Bob will be remembered for his strong faith, quiet generosity, love for his family, and a life well lived.
