Daisy Faith Bouwman passed away peacefully in her parents arms at Stollery Children’s Hospital, Edmonton, Alberta. She was surrounded by her family. Daisy fought hard and smiled to the end.
Daisy Faith Bouwman was born on February 25, 2025. For her parents, Mike and Courtney, Daisy epitomized the completion of their perfect family of six. For Daisy’s brothers, Jack, Ezra, and Luke, she was a bundle of pink joy, who they couldn’t wait to tease, tussle with, and love.
There were never any misconceptions that Daisy’s start in life would be an easy one. It was clear, even before she made her grand entrance, that her little heart would need specialized intervention in due time. Still, from the very first moments, she was bright-eyed, full of life, and ready to make her mark on the world.
After spending a few weeks in the NICU, the Bouwman family enjoyed four months of relative normalcy at home while Daisy grew and developed before their eyes. They were gifted, regularly, with Daisy’s infectious grins that seemed to emanate from her entire being. Daisy’s joy of life could not be contained.
Too soon, the family was thrust into a life full of doctor’s appointments, preparing for surgery at the Stollery Children’s Hospital in Edmonton. Daisy underwent her first heart surgery in July. Initially, Mike and Courtney expected to be home a few weeks later, however, as complications arose, Daisy’s stay became long-term. Her three older brothers relocated to Edmonton as the medical staff began the task of getting little Daisy transplant ready.
No one knew for certain what the future held. What Mike and Courtney did know was that Daisy was in the hands of one of the best surgeons in the world, and ultimately, in the loving hands of her heavenly Father who created her.
Over the next five months, the family experienced a rollercoaster of every imaginable emotion, from hope to worry to doubt to hope again. Time and time again, God revealed his power through miracles. Daisy continually defied the odds and demonstrated her resilient spirit in the face of every medical challenge. For mom and dad, days with Daisy were filled with snuggles, story time, Daisy updates sent back home, coffees, and whispered prayers.
Unfortunately, with each month and each procedure, new and compounding complications set in. Feisty as Daisy was, her body eventually grew weary of the fight. On January 16, 2026, Daisy took her final breath, resting safely in the arms of her mom and dad. They can only imagine the joy and relief that she felt as she left her broken body to be with the one who created her.
Mike and Courtney would like to thank the army of family, friends, and strangers who surrounded them throughout their journey, bringing gifts of presence, prayers, comforting words, and financial support. Without them, this journey would have been exponentially more difficult.
Today, the Bouwman family looks back with deep fondness on the unbounded joy that Daisy brought to their lives. That infectious Daisy smile has made a lasting impression upon the hearts of her parents, brothers, grandparents, aunties, uncles, cousins, and the staff at Stollery Children’s Hospital.
For now, the family has peace knowing that she is skipping along the streets of heaven with joyful songs on her lips. Whether here or there, you will always be our sweet Daisy girl!
