Obituary

It is with deep love and profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Lynne Bérard at the age of 63, at Health Science Centre-Women’s Hospital, Winnipeg, MB.

She is lovingly remembered by her four brothers; Aimé (Lucille), Roger (Doris), René, Lionel, and her older sister Jeanne; nieces Anita (Duy), Jasmine and nephews Patrick, Daniel (Jaimee) and Stéphane (Berlyn). Her great-nephews and great-nieces were an important part of her life: Mercedes (Wyatt), Jaid, Léo, Devin, Robyn, Selanne, Roxanne, Maève, Matysse, and great-grandniece Claire. She also leaves to cherish her memory her aunt and godmother Cécile Roy of Ottawa as well as numerous cousins.

Lynne was predeceased by her father Gérard (1979), her mother Lorraine (2025), and her nephew Gérard (1998).

Lynne was loyal to her family and friends, always placing their needs before her own. Her generosity touched everyone around her, always offering support, warmth, and care. She delighted in organizing family reunions and celebrating special occasions, bringing everyone together with her warmth and enthusiasm, especially with a good game of cards. The life of the party, Lynne had a natural gift for making others laugh. Thoughtful and attentive, she never arrived empty-handed, often bringing games or small surprises to entertain her great-nieces and great-nephews.

Lynne was an exceptional and devoted teacher. Her love for children was evident in the countless hours she spent preparing thoughtful and engaging lessons and activities. Highly knowledgeable and respected, she often mentored new teachers entering the profession, generously sharing her many ideas and strategies with colleagues. She continually sought innovative approaches in the classroom, always striving to enrich the learning experience for her students.

Lynne loved curling with the Saint Vital teachers and cross-country skiing with Jeanne. She enjoyed playing cards – especially Plus Ten, Canasta, and cribbage – with family and friends. Concerts, camping, social gatherings, travelling, bingo, and the occasional casino trip brought her plenty of fun. A spirited fan, Lynne cheered enthusiastically for her favourite teams, faithfully supporting the Winnipeg Jets and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

Lynne was truly in her element in the kitchen, cooking alongside her mom and Jeanne. Together they canned pickles and beets, made jams, relish, ketchup, cookies, sucre à la crème, tourtières, and delicious pies. These moments were filled with joy, tradition, and love.

She also had a passion for gardening and took great pride in tending to her small yard and vegetable garden. Lynne especially enjoyed working in her mother’s flowerbeds, never afraid to get her hands dirty. No job was too big when it came to caring for the people and things she loved.

The family wishes to express its sincere gratitude to the dedicated staff at Victoria Hospital and HSC for their exceptional care and compassion. We also extend heartfelt thanks to Gérald Fournier, Death Care Practitioner, for his comforting support and guidance. Thank you to Corey Wall of the Morris Funeral Home for his excellent service and kindness.

The memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at 1:00 p.m., at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB., with the PowerPoint presentation beginning 12:30 p.m.

Interment of the ashes will take place at a later date at St. Joseph Cemetery.

A devoted daughter, sister and aunt, an extraordinary teacher, and a friend to many – Lynne was loved by all and will be dearly missed.
