Obituary

After a lengthy and courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease, Pete Peters, of Mitchell, MB, passed away peacefully at the age of 76, on Tuesday, March 24, 2026.

He is survived by: His wife Lynda Peters (Ens), and their children, Heidi Kehler (Bob) Beth & Reece, Tanya Bachmeier (Nevin) Chloe & Jace, Ryan Peters (Cristina) Madelyn, Victoria, Jocelyn & Olivia. His siblings: Frances (Abe), Wayne (Justina), (Marigold), Marianne, Ron (Elsie), Lyonel (Lorrie) and their families.

He was predeceased by: His parents, Nick and Nettie, Brother Larry, Brother-in-law Tom Fast.

Dad was born on December 16th, 1949, in Steinbach.

He grew up on his family farm in Mitchell with his parents and 6 siblings. He lived, raised his family, worked, played sports and went to church in Mitchell. It was home.

Dad’s love of sports started with hockey. He devoted much of his childhood playing hockey with his brothers and friends. He and Jack were part of the Mitchell arena board and were instrumental in getting the arena built in 1979. In 1981, his team won the championship, Dad lead the league in scoring that year and every year that he played. Dad also loved baseball. He started playing baseball in elementary school and continued to play well into his 30’s. His team won the Provincial D cup championship – Playing under the lights was a special highlight for him. He was 4th in the batting order almost every game.

Whether it was playing, coaching, or watching, Dad never passed up an opportunity to get involved in sports. His kids and grandkids fondly remember his coaching from the sidelines. Later in his life, he discovered his love for golf. He played as often as possible. After retirement, he really enjoyed his weekly outings with his group of golf buddies.

Mom and Dad met in 1973 through mutual friends. They were married on June 28th, 1975, in Steinbach. Shortly after they were married, Mom and Dad were baptized at the Mitchell CMC, where they attended regularly. It was important for Dad to attend church every Sunday, and he carried that sentiment with him to Mitchell Community Fellowship, where he attended for the rest of his life.

Dad left school in grade 11 to start working on a farm. He tried his hand at many different professions, overhead doors, conventional framing, owning a restaurant and whatever he needed to do in between to provide for his family. Eventually, he settled on his real passion – Timber Framing – Starting Cornerstone Timberframes with his brother Wayne in 1990.

Timber framing was not well known in the area. They worked hard to get the business off the ground and spent the next 25 years building a successful company.

Their membership with the Timber Framers Guild gave them the opportunity to travel often for conferences. Dad especially enjoyed travelling to Europe, where he enjoyed exploring the old cathedrals and other Timber frame architecture.

Dad had a love of European sports cars (specifically his Red Porsche 2006 Boxster) and was a part of the Porsche club. He enjoyed going to races in Elkhart Lake.

His friends and family will remember him as being genuine. He was the same person in all aspects of his life from sports to church to work and beyond Dad was always himself. He will be deeply missed.
