Cornelius Krause, age 89, of Winnipeg, Manitoba passed away peacefully on Monday, April 13, 2026, at Deer Lodge Centre, Winnipeg, MB, following a lengthy illness.
Cornelius will be lovingly remembered by his beloved wife of 68 years, Dora (née Kliewer); his daughters, Cheryl (Ed) and Vera (Larry); his grandchildren, Stephen (Allysa), Kimberley (Ryan), Janna, and Joshua; his great-granddaughter, Bella; as well as many other relatives and friends.
Cornelius was born on May 10, 1936, in Silberfeld, Manitoba, where he was raised on the family farm. He and Dora were married on July 26, 1958, in Niverville, and shortly thereafter moved to Winnipeg, where they began their family and built a life together.
A well-known and respected crane operator, Cornelius worked for R. Litz & Sons for many years before retiring in 1999. In retirement, he spent many happy summers at his trailer in Petersfield, enjoying time with friends and family, and many weekends playing Cribbage, Crokinole, and Scrabble. He and Dora were active members of Sargent Avenue Mennonite Church.
Dad had a one-of-a-kind sense of humour, complete with flawless comebacks, a story for everything, and a legendary lack of direction. He shared a particularly close and cherished bond with his sister Tina, marked by love, laughter, and many lengthy phone conversations that remained constant throughout his life. He was incredibly proud of his children and grandchildren, who loved him dearly and will miss him deeply.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at 2:00 p.m., at Birchwood Funeral Chapel in Steinbach, MB., with interment to follow at Hespeler Cemetery in Niverville.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the care team at Deer Lodge Centre and to the many friends who visited and supported him. Cornelius will be deeply missed by all who knew him. May he rest in peace.
