It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Gerry Paul Friesen age 57 on Saturday, April 18, 2026 at the Ste Anne Hospital.
Gerry is survived by his loving wife and best friend Bev, his mom Tina, siblings Wendy Schroeder, Jon & Shannon Friesen, Rachel & Al Hallson, mother-in-law Frieda Duerksen, Ray & Fran Duerksen, Ken & Jane Duerksen and Carol Duerksen, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and many special friends.
Gerry was predeceased by his dad Paul Friesen, brother Kevin Friesen, nephew Bryson Friesen, Bev’s dad Menno Duerksen and brother Bruce Duerksen.
Gerry was born on Aug 20, 1968 in Steinbach, MB. Gerry was the second child in a family of five. From a young age you could find Gerry reading books, he even read through the encyclopedia set, receiving high marks in school without much effort. During Gerry’s teen years, his interests shifted to hockey, music and a love for cars, especially his 1972 blue Chevy Nova. After various jobs, Gerry found his love in driving long distance across Canada and the United States. During this time, Gerry & Bev’s special friendship eventually led to marriage in 2001. Bev joined Gerry on many of these trips where memories were made. Anniversaries were often celebrated with fireworks or just at home cuddling with their fur babies, Katie & Nori. Gerry and Bev also shared many special dates on short road trips visiting the beautiful local lakes, enjoying picnic lunches or wiener roasts in Marchand. Good times were had off the beaten path, taking the road less travelled and following the food trucks.
Over the years, Gerry really appreciated the many visits with his friends. He loved people.
In Gerry’s late teen years, his faith became personal to him and he was baptized shortly after. Even through his many struggles, his faith and love for God remained.
Bev and the Friesen family would like to extend their appreciation to all the friends and support workers who have loved and cared for Gerry over the years.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, April 28, 2026 at Crossings Funeral Care, with viewing 1 hour prior to the service. Gerry will be laid to rest in the Silberfeld CMC Cemetery following the reception.
