Obituary

Nettie Dyck passed away peacefully on April 22, 2026, at the age of 100, leaving behind a legacy of faith, devotion, and deep love for her family.

Nettie was born on September 17, 1925, in Winnipeg to Jacob and Helen Dyck. She was raised in Springstein alongside her three siblings: Helen, Jacob and Mary. After completing high school, she moved to Winnipeg for work before returning to the Springstein area after marrying the love of her life, Peter Dyck, on June 19, 1948.

Nettie and Peter raised four children – Harry, John, Irma, and Sandra. Nettie was a devoted and exceptional mother, deeply cherished by each of her children. Known for her remarkable patience, she lovingly maintained a full and active home, with children under her roof for 38 years.

Together, Nettie and Peter built a life rooted in hard work, love, and family on their farm. Nettie worked tirelessly, preparing meals and baking for the farming staff while tending to her large garden filled with flowers and vegetables. She had a deep love for sewing and became the longest-serving member of her church’s volunteer sewing group, quietly serving others through her gift.

Family was at the heart of everything Nettie did. She devoted much of her time and energy to bringing loved ones together, and gatherings were thoughtfully planned occasions that reflected her care for others. Her home was always open, often filled with the comforting smells of freshly prepared meals and baking. No matter how full or lively the house became, Nettie welcomed it all with a warm smile. Even as the noise of her many grandchildren filled every room, she found joy in their presence and treasured every moment spent together.

Nettie lived a full and active life. During the winter months, she enjoyed travelling to destinations such as South America, Hawaii, Germany, and Texas, while summers were devoted to the rhythms of farming, camping, and time spent with family. She and Peter shared a love for the outdoors and created lasting memories with their children and grandchildren through camping trips and time at the lake. Nettie took great joy in teaching her family to fish, instilling patience as they sat together in the boat, waiting for the next catch. Evenings were often filled with games, laughter, and the gentle lessons of healthy competition – where winning mattered less than being together, even if it meant staying up until 2 a.m.

Her faith was central to her life. She was a devoted member of the Springstein Mennonite Church and remained active at Bethania, attending German hymn sings, chapel services, communion, and Advent gatherings, often surrounded by loved ones. We are deeply grateful for the love, support and care she received during her time at Bethania.

In the past year, Nettie was honoured as one of Bethania’s centenarians, celebrating a long and faithful life with family and friends.

She will be lovingly remembered by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren:
