Obituary

Stanley Marvyn Friesen passed away peacefully on the morning of February 22, 2026, in Winnipeg, following a brief stay in hospital.

Stanley was born on September 23, 1951, to Abram (Abe) and Tina Friesen. He was the third of four children and spent his early years growing up on a farm in Sewell, Manitoba, near Lowe Farm. In 1971, Stanley moved with his family to Winnipeg, where he would make his lifelong home.

Stanley had a deep and unwavering love for the Lord. He accepted Jesus into his heart at a young age and lived his life guided by faith, integrity, and compassion. His Christian faith shaped his decisions and actions and was evident in the way he cared for others throughout his life.

He shared a special and enduring bond with his sister Darlene. Close in age, they were best friends, sharing countless adventures and many laughs over the years. Stanley also cherished memories of family travels, including a much-loved trip to Expo 67 in Montreal, which was often fondly recalled.

On September 1, 1973, Stanley married Anna Rempel. Together they shared 52 loving years of marriage, marked by teamwork, devotion, and joy. Stanley and Anna loved to travel and explored many places across North America and Europe, with Banff National Park holding a special place in their hearts. Their partnership extended into everyday life, including Anna’s faithful help in choosing Stanley’s wardrobe due to his color blindness, a small but meaningful expression of their care for one another.

Stanley worked throughout his career in the IT field and was well known within his family as the trusted “computer guy,” always ready to lend a helping hand.

Family meant everything to Stanley. He and Anna were deeply involved in the lives of their nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews, celebrating their joys and offering encouragement during difficult times. In later years, they also became mentors to neighborhood children, investing time and care into their lives. They lived their faith together, opening their home for several years to boarders attending local colleges and universities and cherished those connections.

Stanley was an avid sports fan who enjoyed discussing the latest games and events. He also loved participating in sports, including curling, golf, racquetball, and squash. Curling was a long-time passion, and he enjoyed many years with the same team, as well as curling alongside Anna in a co-ed league. He also enjoyed golfing at the nearby Canoe Club golf course.

Stanley was predeceased by his parents, Abram and Tina Friesen; his brother Larry Friesen; his sister Darlene (Friesen) Germain; brother-in-law and sister-in-law David and Helen Rempel; brother-in-law Ernest Froese; and niece Laurel Froese.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Anna Friesen; his brother Harvey (Maxine) Friesen; sisters-in-law Caroline Friesen and Frieda Froese; and many nieces and nephews: Leslee (Travis Eggie) Webb, Aaron Webb, Lara (Mike) Friesen, Stuart Friesen, Sheldon (Laurie) Rempel, Cam (Jen) Rempel, Randy (Mikel) Froese, Roger (Pam) Froese, and Mike (Juanita) Froese, Jeffry Thompson, Trevor (Kelly) Thompson and Shelley Thomspon.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to Len and Judy Funk for their love and support of Stanley and Anna throughout their lives, and especially their later years. Thank you to the compassionate staff at Health Sciences Centre for the care provided to Stanley.

In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of Stanley’s life will be held on May 23, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Morrow Gospel Church in Winnipeg, with a light lunch to follow. Interment will take place at 3:00 p.m. at Lowe Farm Cemetery.
