Obituary

Philip Hiebert was born on March 25, 1922, in Randolph MB to David and Susanna Hiebert. He was the youngest of 13 children.

He is predeceased by his wife Agatha, his parents, 10 brothers and two sisters.

He is survived by his three sons, Darrel (Dianne), Randy, Bradley (Christine), eight grandchildren, Sheena (Jeff), April (Jonathan), Devan (Catherine), Dale (Isabel), Amber (fiancé Peter), Lucas, Bethany, Sarah, four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He became a believer in Jesus Christ as a young man, was baptized and became a member of the EMB church in Steinbach and served as an assistant Sunday School Teacher for a number of years.

In 1956, at the age of 34, Philip married Agatha Sawatzky and moved to the Hiebert Homestead in Randolph. Here they took over the family farm which included at various times dairy, hog, and chickens. He also worked as a welder for 60 years. He was an active member of the community serving as school trustee, 4-H leader and an advocate for the Randolph Rink.

He shared his love of fishing, gopher and rabbit hunting with his three sons. He taught them how to weld, play baseball, play hockey and build go carts. Sharing his hobbies with his boys was how he built life long relationship with each one.

Anyone who knew Philip would have known about his passion for gardening. The produce of his large garden was a blessing to many. His grandchildren would often find him there. This is where they spent much time with him, got to know him and benefited from his knowledge. Not only did he share his passion of gardening with them, but he also took the time to tell stories, give advice and share wisdom from his life.

In his later years Dad, had more time to spend devoted to reading. He loved studying history and working on learning Spanish. He read and memorized scripture, prayed regularly for each child, grandchild and great-grandchild. His love for Jesus and His concern for The Lost was evidenced in increasing measure during the last months. His steadfast faith was an encouragement to those around him. He was generous with his time and resources. His gentleness and kindness will be greatly missed.

The family would like to thank the staff at Bethesda Regional Health Centre who lovingly and patiently cared for our Dad in his last days.
