Obituary

On November 23, 2018, Susana Kehler, our beloved mother and Oma, passed away at the age of 96.

Left to celebrate her life are her children: Katharina (Johan) Sawatzky, Diedrich (Sara) Dueck, Justina (Henry) Penner, Susana (Peter) Kehler, Gerhard (Erna) Dueck, Helena (Herbert) Neufeld, Isaak (Leni) Dueck, Johan (Sara) Dueck, Abram (Herta) Dueck, Margaret (Martin) Unrau, Andreas (Lina) Dueck, Erna (Rudy) Penner, Jasch (Annie) Dueck, 52 grandchildren and their spouses, 91 great-grandchildren, and seven great great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her parents: Heinrich and Katarina Wiebe, her husband Cornelius Kehler, her first husband Peter Dueck, three children in infancy Jacob, Maria and Elizabeth, her second husband Johan Sawatzky, sons Heinrich Dueck, and Peter Dueck, daughter-in-law Helena Dueck, and three grandchildren Arthur Sawatzky, Viola (Dueck) Unrau, and Brian Dueck.

Susana was born in 1922 in Canada, and her parents immigrated to Paraguay in 1928. She was only 6 years old when her mother passed away with many others at Puerto Casado Paraguay, South America. In her youth, she was baptized on the profession of her faith. She married Peter D. Dueck in 1940, and they were married for 42 years. They had 18 children, of which 3 died in infancy. Her husband Peter died in 1983. After being alone for 10 years, she married Johan Sawatzky in 1993, who passed away only 10 months later.

Mom came back to Canada in 1997 where she married Cornelius Kehler, who passed away on July 2, 2014. They enjoyed 17 years together, living in Niverville, Manitoba.

Mom loved cooking, baking, and welcoming family and friends into her home. She was talented at sewing, and blessed her daughters, and granddaughters with knitted dishcloths. Mom loved to be surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. It gave her much joy, to know her family had grown so much. They took time to come together each year. She also took great comfort in knowing her faith in Jesus had been passed on through the generations, and it was her desire to be reunited with her family in eternity.

Mom was a women of prayer, as her dementia took a toll on her, she would pray a lot. She also had memorized scripture, and would often quote psalm 23. among other verses. And she loved singing hymns. This really helped her to cope with her dementia.

The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Niverville CMC, 99 First Street South, Niverville, MB, with viewing beginning at 10:00 a.m. The interment will follow at the Niverville Heritage Cemetery, on main street and 311, Niverville, MB.
