It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of John Baker Giesbrecht, born on May 18, 1955. John passed away November 14th, peacefully and surrounded by his family, held in the arms of his loving wife, Maria.
John was born in Chihuahua, Mexico, later moving with his large family of 14 children to Ontario. His life began in humble surroundings, but the values he learned early – faith, hard work, loyalty, and family – became the foundation of the man he grew to be.
He was predeceased by his infant daughter Suzanna; his parents Abe and Agatha Giesbrecht; his brothers Isaac, Abe and Henry; his sister Susan; his parents-in-law John and Maria Neufeld; his brothers-in-law Peter, Klass, Franz, and Jacob; his sister-in-law Anna; and his step-grandson Gavin.
John was baptized on May 15, 1978, and lived his life as a devout Mennonite Christian man who loved God deeply.
On October 15, 1978, he married the love of his life, Maria, after meeting her in Paraguay. Together they shared 47 years of marriage – years filled with devotion, partnership, family, and grace.
John was the proud father of eight children:
His many grandchildren were his pride and joy. Each one gave him happiness, purpose, and a sense of legacy that will continue long after today.
In 1982, John moved his family to Landmark, Manitoba, where he started his own business, Giesbrecht Mechanical. Through determination, skill, and endless hours of hard work, he built a respected and thriving shop. His son Abe joined him, and the business continues to stand strong – one of the many lasting marks John leaves behind.
John was a quiet, humble, and hard-working man. He kept his hands busy – whether fixing engines, building, or creating – and in recent years he found joy in making models and completing the most challenging LEGO builds, pieces that showcased his patience, precision, and creativity.
John lived a life defined by faith, family, and hard work. He was steady, dependable, and devoted.
May he rest in peace, surrounded by the eternal love of God he cherished throughout his life.
