Obituary

With heavy hearts, we share that Lorraine Werstiuk, a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend, passed away on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. Lorraine leaves behind countless cherished memories and laughter that will forever echo in the hearts of all who knew her.

Lorraine is lovingly remembered by her husband, Paul, and her son, Kyle. She is also survived by her brothers: Jim (Lucie), Roger (Celeste); her sister, Debby (Percy); her mother, Marie Jeanne Plouffe; Pat Tencha our step sister, along with many extended family members and dear friends. Lorraine was predeceased by her father Johnny Ploaffe.

Lorraine was born in St. Boniface, MB, and raised in Ste. Anne, Manitoba, where she grew up surrounded by family and community. She met the love of her life, Paul, at a Halloween party in 1981. After dating for ten years, they were married in June 1991, and welcomed their son, Kyle, in 1993.

Lorraine was known for her playful spirit and sense of humour. She loved food fights with her brothers, and playing tricks on her friends and family. Halloween held a special place in her heart, especially sharing it with her sister-in-law, Celeste. For the past 36 years, they celebrated together, dressing up and creating memories that became treasured traditions. Lorraine also deeply loved Christmas and the many family gatherings shared over the years. She also adored her many nieces and nephews.

Her love of family extended to weekly shopping trips with her aunt, uncle, and mother – time she truly cherished. Lorraine enjoyed watching her brothers’ band perform, loved playing baseball, and found great joy in travelling to warm climates.

Lorraine faced her short battle with cancer with remarkable strength and courage. Her determination, love of life, and enduring spirit shone brightly, even in her final hours.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. J. Kucheran and the Ste. Anne Hospital staff for the compassionate care given to Lorraine. They would also like to extend their deepest gratitude to Debby, Lucie, and Celeste for staying by Lorraine’s side, offering comfort, love, and devoted care during her final hours. Their presence meant more than words can express.

She will be deeply missed and forever remembered for her warmth, laughter, and love.

In Lorraine’s own words, it’s never goodbye but, “We’ll see ya when we see ya.”

A private ash interment will be held at a later date.

To the love of my life:

I cried when you passed away
I still cry today
Although I loved you dearly
I couldn’t make you stay
A golden heart stopped beating
Hard working hands at rest
GOD broke my heart to prove to me
HE only takes the best
