Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Anne Therrien (nee Myrchak) age 83, of Sandilands, Manitoba, passed away following a lengthy illness on Sunday, January 25, 2026, at Ste. Anne Hospital, Ste. Anne, MB.

She is survived by her beloved husband George of 61 years and their son Bruce, daughter Judy (Rob) and grandson Brayden. She will also be lovingly remembered by her sister Margaret (Lawrence), brothers Dan and Steve, sister-in-law Rita and Florence and many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was predeceased by her parents John and Antoninia, brothers Johnny, Bill, Pete, Mike, Harry and sister Mary.

Mom was born April 11, 1942, in Lonesand, MB. Mom came from a large family of nine siblings. Her family moved to Sandilands in 1950, and it was here where she met, not knowing then, that in the future was going to be the love of her life ~ George. She continued her schooling in Sandilands and later in Woodridge, MB. Mom took a couple of years off from school and worked at a sewing factory in Winnipeg. Mom decided to resume her studies where she graduated from La Broquerie Collegiate. Mom had a love for singing and playing her guitar. A special moment for her was when her sister Margaret and herself performed on CJOB radio show – The Western Hour. Music was always dear to her and her wish was to see Elvis Presley. Mom loved to dance and attend dances. As part of her Ukrainian culture, when a polka played, she was first on the dance floor.

The summer of 1964 was one of her most special years as she married as she always put it “her thrill over the hill” ~ her George, on August 22nd. On September 14, 1965 mom and dad welcomed their son Bruce and on March 23, 1968 daughter Judy was born. Her children were her pride and joy, and she always said how blessed she was to have them both. Her heart was full of love and happiness when their grandson Brayden was born May 5, 1997. Grandma never missed a baseball game, football game, piano recital or school event. She played in the sandbox or a made-up game in which they shared a lot of laughter. She always put family first and we all forever will be grateful.

She will always be remembered for her generosity and care towards others. Another part of her Ukrainian background was cooking so many tasty dishes such as perogies and cabbage rolls. She always made feasts for special occasions or just a regular meal where family and friends that came by never went home hungry. Mom always kept busy throughout her life working with determination and dedication at Steinbach Sewing Factory Rice Sportswear, planting trees in Sandilands for natural resources and in Penner Foods and IGA bakery. It is here where she enjoyed working most, serving customers and meeting people, as mom was never at a loss for words or a smile. Mom had many past times. She enjoyed being outdoors picking blueberries, (even though her kids were not so excited about going). Mom loved fishing and even with a broken rod her fish never got away. Mom enjoyed day trips or weekend getaways to Casinos, visiting family, and road trips to various places. Her favorite family trip was to Las Vegas which she often spoke about.

Mom’s health failed drastically over the years and was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. From that time on mom’s life was a challenge and a struggle but her faith in God gave her the strength she needed through her difficult journey. Simple things like relaxing outside looking at her flowers and watching butterflies made her smile with joy. Our hearts are broken beyond words, but we are comforted knowing she is at peace.

We will miss you and hold you close in our hearts forever. Heaven gained a beautiful angel. Many thanks to all of her homecare workers, family and friends for your caring, love and support.

A private family service will be held at a later date.
