Obituary

On Wednesday, August 29th, 2018, at Bethesda Place, at the age of 95, our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend peacefully went to her eternal home to be with her Lord and Savior.

Mom was born in Steinfeld, Russia on October 19, 1922 to Abram and Tina Klassen. Mom immigrated to Canada with her family as a young child. The family purchased a farm near Rosengard and this is also where she received her school education.

Mom was baptized upon the confession of her faith on June 27, 1943 at the Steinbach Bergthaler Church.

On June 24, 1945, Mom married the love of her life – our father George Esau. They shared 65 years together.

She is survived by four children; Katie (Jake) Broesky, Annette (Jim) Martens, Jerry (Melanie) Esau and Marilyn (Richard) Wiebe, 11 grandchildren – Wayne (Carol) Broesky, Scott (Jennifer Fournier) Broesky, Matthew (Lisa) Martens, Julie Martens, Kim (Anton) Alleyne, Gerard Esau, Luke (Bridget) Esau, Justin Esau, Joshua Wiebe, Jeremy Wiebe, Alyssa (Tyler) Peters, and 11 great grandchildren – Cynthia (Jude) Johnson, Dustin, Julianne Broesky, Brittany, Riley, Carson and Morgan Broesky, Ajay, Maddox and Amara Alleyne, and Makenna Martens. She had another great-grandchild and her first great-great grandchild on the way and was so looking forward to meeting each of these little ones. She is survived by one sister, one brother-in-law, four sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews.

Mom was such an amazing role model and was an inspiration to us all. She taught us all to work hard in our lives to achieve what we wanted. She was a very hard working, loving, and grateful individual who was not one to give up easily. She has been through many health issues and somehow fought through each one. She was always willing to lend a helping hand where she could. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking, baking, knitting and was always a helping hand for Dad on the farm.

She overcame many health issues in her life, from breast cancer, two strokes prior to this one, gall bladder surgery, severe car accident, legally blind for many years due to macular degeneration, hearing starting to fail and numerous other ailments. In 2014, she fell and broke her hip. This is when she moved into a nursing home. This was a hard adjustment for her. With her failing eyesight and declined mobility it made her life very hard for her. It limited her ability to participate in activities at the home and making for lonely times. However, with all the hardships she was still always an encouragement to those around her. We could not leave without a hug and a I Love You before we left. She always thanked us for the visit and told us not to wait so long before we came again. She appreciated all the visits, and a special thank you to a few of her friends that came on a regular basis to visit. She absolutely waited for these visits.

Mom was predeceased by her husband George, her parents, her in-laws, one sister and three brothers, four brothers-in-law, two sisters-in-law and one great-grandson.

We would like to thank the staff at Bethesda ER and the staff at Bethesda Place for all their love and care they provided to our Mom.
