Martha Loewen (nee Braun)
Obituary
Martha Loewen passed away peacefully at the age of 85 on Sunday evening, November 18, 2018, at Rest Haven Nursing Home in Steinbach. She went straight into the arms of Jesus, whom she loved and served with all her heart.
Martha was born in Blumenort, Manitoba on October 26, 1933 to Henry and Margaretha Braun. She was the second child in a large family made up of 11 children; six girls and five boys.
Martha gave her heart to Jesus at a young age. Never looking back from her choice, Martha followed her Savior wholeheartedly her entire life.
At age 17, Martha met Jim while hoeing in a beet field, and three years later they were married, in 1954. They were blessed with five children: Fran (Ray) Duerksen, Sharon (Walt) Hamm, David (Rachel) Loewen, Lauri (John) Toews, and Ken Loewen. She was also blessed with 11 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
As a young mother, Martha baked the best oatmeal chocolate chip cookies and pies. Coming home from school and smelling the freshly baked buns was an amazing and heartwarming experience for her children. As her children grew older and had children of their own, they enjoyed Sunday lunches at home. Sunday lunches at Mom’s were a weekly occurrence, filled with laughter, food, and games.
Mom was always willing to help her kids with canning, gardening, baking, sewing, and shopping. She was an elegant woman who always loved to wear beautiful clothes. Her favourite perfume, L’Eau du Temps, and raspberry glace lipstick were her trademarks.
She was known for her great sense of humour, mischievousness, quick wit, big smile, and hearty laugh. She had a great love for Jesus, a great love for family, and was caring, kind, and a good listener. She loved being involved in different ministries at Southland Church.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, November 23, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Southland Church chapel, Steinbach, MB. The burial will follow at the Heritage Cemetery, Steinbach, MB.
